There was a rash of armed robberies in metro last night.
The first one happened at 7:00 p.m. at the Subway on Water Street in St. John’s when a man wearing a grey hoodie, blue surgical mask and blue jeans entered the restaurant and demanded money. He ran from the business and headed east on Water Street.
Then at about 10:30 p.m., patrons inside the Laurier Club on Hamilton Avenue told the RNC that a man who appeared to be in his thirties went into the club with a sawed-off shotgun. He was wearing a red hat and a reflective jacket and left in a two-door dark-coloured car.
And at about midnight, there was an attempted armed robbery at the Meigle Lounge on the main highway in Seal Cove. The same man who was at the Laurier Club approached the door of the lounge and tried to get in but the door was locked. The man was dressed in the same clothing as the one who was at the Laurier and he also had a sawed-off shotgun which he pointed at the lock and fired. He left in a 4-door dark-coloured car.
Police have linked the same person to the Laurier and Meigle but not the Subway.
