Negotiations are underway to develop an essential services agreement for private EMS workers, however, according to a union spokesperson, they are not going smoothly.
The agreement between Teamsters Local 855 and Fewer’s Ambulance is required by the Essential Ambulance Services Act, which was the topic of an emergency debate in the House of Assembly last week with Bill 24 passing.
However, according to Hubert Dawe, negotiations have not been productive.
He says the employer did not attend the meeting and the representatives sent in their place did not have the ability to negotiate.
Dawe says they will make an application to the Labour Relations Board to impose an agreement and ask for binding arbitration.
