A representative with CAA Atlantic says he doesn’t expect WestJet’s decision to pull out of Deer Lake to be a permanent one.
Steve Olmstead, Director of Public and Government Affairs with CAA Atlantic says it’s not uncommon to see airlines make adjustments to their services.
He says a lot of airlines are still trying to recover from post-pandemic labour shortages and high demand, leading them to reorganize their routes.
Once things start to return to normal, Olmstead believes many services will resume.
Until that time, he advises travellers on the west coast who were planning to travel with WestJet to reach out and explore their options.
He says a lot of people have been relying on travel advisors to ask for help. While you do not have to book through the advisor, they will point travellers in the right direction in terms of alternate airlines and destinations.
