More emergency department closures continue to hinder the hospital in Whitbourne.

The Dr. William H. Newhook Community Health Centre has seen numerous emergency room closures ever since last summer, with the mayor and first responders in the area calling attention to the issue and the effects on patients.

The emergency room will be closed for two weeks beginning today, reopening on February 20.

People in need of urgent medical attention should call 911 or head to the emergency room in Carbonear, Placentia, or St. John’s.

Family practice clinics, outpatient lab services, and ambulatory treatment services are not affected.
