When the temperatures plunged on the weekend there were fears among Newfoundlanders who lived through #DarkNL, about whether or not NL Hydro would be able to meet demand.
Hydro officials tweeted out Saturday afternoon indicating that it was reaching peak demand, and made suggestions about how to conserve energy leading some to fear that rolling blackouts were coming.
But, that didn’t happen.

NL Hydro’s Vice President of Engineering and System Operations, Rob Collett says they were able to meet an historic demand peak on Saturday. with the use of Holyrood, Muskrat Falls, the Labrador Island Link and various hydro generation facilities they were able to keep people warm and comfortable.
NL Hydro was even able to supply power to Nova Scotia and Quebec to help meet increased demand in those provinces.
