The provincial government has begun a statutory review of the Personal Health Information Act.
Toronto-based INQ Consulting and INQ Law have been appointed to assist government in completing the statutory review.
The companies were chosen based on their focus on data privacy protection.
The privacy commissioner will also be involved throughout the review.
The Act, proclaimed in 2011, must undergo a review once every five years. The review will include an environmental scan to look for opportunities and improvement in legislation in other areas, interviews with various stakeholders and the opportunity for public input through an online questionnaire at engage NL.
