The NDP is concerned about what’s happening at Nalcor and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro following testimony at the rate mitigation hearings last week.
Liberty Consulting, which has been hired by the Public Utilities Board to review options, told the hearing that the number of executive positions at the two companies is way out of line with other Crown corporations in Canada. It says even with a reduction of five to 10 per cent, they would still have more executive positions than other Crown corporations.
Nalcor disputes those findings, but NDP Leader Alison Coffin agrees with Liberty that the companies are bloated at the executive level.
She says the salaries are out of line with the rest of government and that too many executives are making too much money.
