After a huge peak in late November and early December, the incidence of positive influenza cases in Newfoundland and Labrador has dropped significantly, but other respiratory illness continues to circulate in the community.
The greatest number of lab-confirmed cases of influenza A were reported in the Eastern Health region.
Eight influenza outbreaks were reported in the province in December, compared to three in January. When it comes to other respiratory illnesses, there were 11 outbreaks in December and 12 in January.
After a huge spike in December the number of emergency department visits due to influenza-like illness jumped again in the first week of February.
Entero/Rhinovirus made up the biggest proportion of positive respiratory illness at 602 cases to date, followed by RSV at 282.
