There’s no break until early Wednesday morning as snow and high winds slam the eastern half of the island.
Over 20 centimeters of snow, ice pellets and freezing rain has fallen over the Avalon, 10 cm hitting central Newfoundland and 15 cm on the Burin and west.
According to Warning Preparedness Meteorologist David Neil, more is on the way. When all is said and done, a total of 30 to 45 cm is expected, which may lead to a messy commute for some Wednesday morning.
Neil says for areas on the Avalon there will still be some lingering snowfall with high winds, leading to a dicey commute.

The Avalon Peninsula is virtually shut down and there are many closures beyond the Avalon through to Gander and Marystown. Roads are treacherous in some places and visibility reduced.
Not much is moving in or out of St. John’s International Airport and Metrobus has been grounded.
