Staff shortages have once again forced changes at the hospital in Bonavista.

The emergency department at the site will be closed until 8 a.m. this morning. After that, a virtual ER will be in place whereby a nurse practitioner will be supported by a physician available virtually.

That system will be in place until 8 a.m. Friday, at which time the emergency department will close entirely until Wednesday of next week.

During that time, anyone in need of emergency care should call 911 or head to the emergency department in Clarenville.
