A new piece of online technology is wowing users from around the world with its potential, but it also has some others concerned.
ChatGPT is an online bot that uses artificial intelligence to answer questions that can range from the mundane to extremely intricate, albeit with varying degrees of accuracy.
Local tech blogger Kevin Andrews says the bot can respond to almost any prompt given to it with a surprising level of clarity.
He says people can ask it to write original music, poetry, or art, and even convert movies to emojies. One viral piece of art that has been making the rounds, he says, is a koala dunking a basketball Michael Jordan Style. As well, people have used it to write things like job applications and school assignments.
But, Andrews warns that the bot can be “scary accurate,” and other times way off the mark.
He says the bot scored 70 per cent averages on both the US medical licensing exam and the bar exam for lawyers. Andrews says that’s leading educators to be torn between admiring the potential use of the technology, and fearing potential harm on human learing. Andrews sums it up with the Spider-man line “with great power comes great responsibility.”
