The storm system affecting the Avalon Peninsula is expected to result in about 15 cm of accumulation by the time it eases off early this evening.
While the snowfall will taper off, Environment Canada Meteorologist Jill Maetea says the winds will remain strong, blowing that snow around through the evening and overnight. Gusts of 60 and 70 km/h are expected over most eastern regions with gusts greater than 80 km/h along the southern Avalon causing blowing snow and reduced visibility.
While it will clear off, temperatures are taking a dip for most of the province with bitterly cold temperatures in many areas.
She says all areas of Newfoundland and many parts of Labrador can expect temperatures and wind chills well below seasonal average over the next few days and through the weekend.
