A 26-year-old man is facing a rash of charges, including armed robbery, after running from police multiple times yesterday evening.
At around 6:00 p.m., RNC were called to a gas station on Topsail Road in St. John’s where a lone suspect entered the building with a knife and left with an unknown amount of cash. Police searched the area but could not find the suspect.
At around 8:30 p.m., police were called to stop a suspected impaired driver on the Outer Ring Road near Paradise, but the driver refused to stop. Police did not chase due to public safety reasons.
An hour later, officers spotted the same vehicle on Lemarchant Road and were finally able to stop the vehicle, which turned out to be stolen. The driver and passenger were arrested.
The driver was identified as the same man responsible for the armed robbery and was charged with three counts of flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, one count of armed robbery, two breaches of court orders, and one count of theft of a motor vehicle.
He was held to appear in court. The passenger was released.
