It’s been a bitterly cold week across the province, but the arctic air is expected to start moving away from the region today.
Temperatures have been well below seasonal averages recently, with some areas experiencing extreme cold warnings as a result.
However, Environment Canada meteorologist Rodney Barney says today, for the first time in a while, temperature highs will move above -10 in eastern Newfoundland.
The same goes for central, which will see a high of -9. The west coast, which started the day with an extreme cold warning, will see highs climb to -7.
It gets warmer again tomorrow, around -4 in the east, but the winds will be up slightly to 60 km/h.
Barney says it will be much the same for central and the west coast, with temperatures in the range of -5 C.
