The provincial government is blocking TikTok from all government devices amid growing concerns around the amount of data and information the Chinese-based app collects.
Digital Government Minister Sarah Stoodley says based on what they’ve learned, and following discussions with the federal government about how the app uses data, they don’t think it’s appropriate on its government-issued devices.
Stoodley says as of Thursday, March 2nd, all government devices will no longer be able to download the app and it will be deleted from all government-issued phones and devices.
She says in the meantime employees can delete the app now if they want.
The minister says she’s deleting the app herself from her work and personal phones.
