Municipalities NL is concerned that federal funding earmarked for municipal infrastructure is not reaching the communities it’s meant for.
MNL says $212.8 million dollars – or 38 per cent of NL’s allotment through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program – remains unspent, and needs to be allocated by March 31st.
They’re calling for immediate action, and clear and transparent information on how infrastructure is funded.
The provincial government, meanwhile, says all of the federal funding allocated for this province through the federal program will be spoken for by the end of March.
In a statement provided to VOCM News, the province says the process is nearing completion as applications and a number of projects are under federal consideration.
Tenders should be announced and work started in the near future, according to government.
