Groups that deal with whales that get tangled in fishing gear gained a different perspective of their work at Marine Institute on Wednesday.
The whale entanglement workshop was put off by the Whale Release and Strandings Group.
The goal was to discuss the tools they use and see ways things can be improved.
The school’s flume tank, which allows people to see what’s happening under the surface of the water, played a big part in the event.
Wayne Ledwell says the environment provides a different perspective of their work because they can’t see how their equipment moves through the water when they’re out on a rescue, but they can see those details in the flume tank.
People who disentangle whales across Canada are gathering at the Marine Institute to share knowledge and innovate the tools of the trade.
Tune in tomorrow to learn more about this unique workshop for a small group of experts. @590VOCM pic.twitter.com/BO9achISRn— Gerri Lynn Mackey (@GerriLynnMackey) March 1, 2023
