The President of Tennis Newfoundland and Labrador says the benefits of revamped facilities in the metro area will go far beyond the Canada Games in 2025.
Government is giving Tennis NL $1.4 million to upgrade the Riverdale and Green Belt tennis clubs ahead of when the Canada Games come to town.
President Melissa Pine says the money is a great opportunity to put the spotlight on the province, noting they will have the capacity to host more Atlantic, national, and international events.
She says players from here haven’t been able to compete in those types of events at home, so this is a chance to “level the playing field” for those athletes. Pine says the upgraded facilities will act as training centres to help local players compete at the highest levels possible.
