A long-time school bus operator whose contracts with the school board were suspended without warning is speaking out.
Gladney’s of Portugal Cove-St. Philips have had anywhere from 25 to 70 bus route contracts per year for the past 20 years.
President Josh Gladney fears the company’s reputation was tarnished by accusations in February, accusations he still does not understand.
A few days before the action, there had been a fatal accident involving one of their buses which was not carrying passengers at the time.
Not long after the suspension, Gladney’s were asked to fulfil 45 of the 54 suspended routes as the school board had been able to replace only nine of those routes.
To this day, Gladney says he still has been given no reason for the suspensions, and has not yet been paid a dime for the service he has been providing since.
