The provincial government has released the details of their Drinking Water Safety Action Plan.
The long-term plan focuses on improving drinking water systems in the province, including semi-public and private ones.
The plan includes 37 actions targeting governance, infrastructure, risk management, regulatory frameworks, outreach, research and innovation.
The province notes some progress being made in regard to drinking water safety.
Between 2017 and 2022 there has been as average of 191 boil water advisories affecting 146 communities, which is about 44,000 people.
By comparison, the province had over 350 boil water advisories in place in 2001.
As well they say the number of non-consumption advisories has been decreasing since 2013.
