The number of boil water advisories in Newfoundland and Labrador continues to be high, and the province’s Environment Minister says one of the reasons why access to clean water continues to be a challenge is investment.
Between 2017 and 2022 there was as average of 191 boil water advisories affecting 146 communities, which is about 44,000 people. That number has declined from over 350 in the early 2000s.
Bernard Davis points to advocacy from the individual communities as a an important step in addressing the issues.
He says the communities that are the most successful are the ones that push forward and make sure that investment is there.
