Now is not the time to tamper with the company structures in place say Nalcor and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro representatives, insisting that the crown corporations are not bloated at the executive level.
President and CEO Stan Marshall said nothing could be further from the truth and that it is a mistake to look at titles in assessing governance.
Liberty Consulting told the Muskrat Falls rate mitigation hearings that the two crown corporations are extremely top-heavy, with far more executives than any other in Canada.
Marshall t0ld the hearings he’s tired of not being able to recruit executives because the pay scale is way too low. For example, his salary is about $600,000, only 5-10 per cent of what he made in his last year as CEO of Fortis.
Speaking metaphorically, Marshall says there were times that he wished the worst on all of us:
“I can’t hire people, I can’t pay people. There are times when I just felt like saying a plague on all your houses, I’m outta here!”
