Fire has severely damaged the NL Hydro plant in Charlottetown.
On Monday around 5:15 a.m., Mary’s Harbour RCMP received a report of a fire at the plant. When police arrived on scene, firefighters with the Charlottetown Volunteer Fire Department had the blaze, which heavily damaged the inside of the structure, under control.
Fuel was located in the area of the fire and the fire department ensured the neighbouring hydro substation was not affected.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and officers do not suspect it was intentionally set.
NL Hydro is expected to have a team of investigators on site later today.
