Another person from this province is moving up in the National Hockey League, this time behind the bench.
Darryl Williams of Labrador City, who has been the assistant coach of the Philadelphia Flyers since 2021, made his debut as head coach earlier this week.
The Flyers won 5-4 in Williams’ debut against the Chicago Blackhawks in their final game of the season.
Speaking to media after the game, the Labrador native says it was an exciting night.
He enjoyed seeing both teams play hard, as well as honouring the career of Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews—whose future in the NHL is uncertain.
