RNC Constable Douglas Snelgrove has surrendered to authorities and is now in jail.
This follows the dismissal of his appeal for sexual assault.
Snelgrove, who is technically still a constable with the RNC, was required to turn himself in after his appeal was denied earlier this week.
The 46-year-old 16-year veteran of the RNC was convicted and sentenced to four years in prison for raping a woman while he was on duty in December of 2014.
His first two trials ended without verdicts due to errors by trial judges.
But in its unanimous decision this week, three Court of Appeal judges agreed there were no mistakes by the trial judge, Justice Vikas Khaladkar, this time around.
Snelgrove could still appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada, and has 60 days to formally signal his intention to do so.
At that point, he could apply for bail again until the highest court in the land decides whether or not to hear his case.
It’s not clear yet whether he has any intention of going that route.
The RNC, meanwhile, won’t make a final determination on his status as a police officer until that final appeal avenue has been exhausted.
