Workplace NL and the provincial government have launched a new six-year workplace injury prevention strategy.
The plan aims to improve existing programs to address a changing workplace, and provide timely education, training and technology among other goals.
Workplace NL says the rate of work-related injuries has remained relatively stable at historic low levels for the last five years and is one of the lowest rates in Canada.
On average, twelve workers are injured in Newfoundland and Labrador every day.
Soft-tissue injuries account for more than two-thirds of all workplace injuries in the province, with an annual average of $102 million in claims cost over the last five years.
Mental health claims meanwhile increased from 25 claims in 2017 to 70 claims in 2021. The highest percentage of claims came from the health care and social services sectors.
