The iconic Fogo Island Inn is marking it’s 10th year in operation and is opening it’s doors to local residents to celebrate.
The high-end inn attracts visitors from around the world looking for a unique getaway, but the cost leaves it beyond the means of many local residents.
The inn is part of the social enterprise known as the Shorefast Foundation, which operates businesses that aim to strengthen cultural heritage, ecological sustainability and boost the economic well-being of Fogo Island.
Alisha Penton of the Shorefast Foundation says they have always received support from the residents of Fogo Island, and they want to give back.
Every permanent resident is being provided a free night at the Fogo Island Inn, because “essentially they own the Fogo Island Inn.”
