It’s a bittersweet time for the Town of Carbonear.
That’s according to Mayor Frank Butt, as two heritage structures rendered unusable by a fire last year are finally being torn down.
The two buildings on Water Street were heavily damaged by a devastating fire in the historic district, however the shells of the buildings remained.
Now, the property owner is in the process of removing them, as they have been deemed a hazard.
Mayor Butt says it is a tough but necessary action.
He says there was no rebuilding them, but the loss of two historic structures is felt by the town.
