Construction on a new Canada Games Track, Field, Turf and Centre of Excellence in the capital city will begin immediately after the contract was awarded to Lindsay Construction.
The project includes a Class II IAAF 8-lane 400-metre track, an outdoor throwing area for field events and a FIFA Quality Pro soccer turf.
The new facility, which will be built next to the Aquarena, will end up occupying some of the land owned by the school board. It will be owned and operated by Memorial University following the Canada Summer Games in August 2025.

The building will have gender-accessible washrooms and a multi-purpose room with computers and TV monitors to facilitate coaching and refereeing skills development. The centre will also have a covered stadium for 1,000 spectators at the soccer turf, covered stadium seating for 500 spectators at the track and field, and a large indoor training room with track lanes, jumping and throwing space and a strength and conditioning area.
The capital city region is hosting the 2025 Canada Summer Games but will use facilities in Mount Pearl, Paradise and Conception Bay South.
