Today’s coronation of King Charles III was attended by hundreds and watched by millions around the world, including in this province.
At Government House in St. John’s, Lieutenant Governor Judy Foote marked the occasion with a parade of honour from the Colonial Building to her official residence across the street.

There, the King’s flag was raised, followed by Indigenous dance and drumming, a tree-planting, speeches and 21-gun salute.
Her Honour noted King Charles has big shoes to fill, but also the perfect example to follow.
“In the late Queen, King Charles could find no better mentor or example by which to commence his reign,” she told the gathering. “I am heartened and look forward to the years ahead as his representative. God save King Charles. Long may he reign.”
Foote could not help, however, to address the weather, which included occasional flurries whipped up by cold gusts of northerly wind.
“Unlike most of you, I dressed for May,” she quipped. “You can take consolation in knowing that the weather in London this morning was almost identical to what is happening here, although it wasn’t snowing.”
About a hundred people turned out for the celebration at Government House this morning, including representatives from government, the Official Opposition and Indigenous groups.
