After what the FFAW calls a difficult day of bargaining with the Association of Seafood Producers, an updated counter proposal was made to the ASP yesterday.
FFAW President Greg admits the latest proposal is not going to make much difference to many enterprise owners compared to the last one, and the financial viability and future of the offshore fleet remains a serious concern.
In an update issued late last night, the fisheries union says a final counter proposal was drafted for presentation to the ASP.
It includes a minimum price of $2.20 per pound for the rest of the season, with a scale set on how much will be paid when the price of Urner Barry 5-8 ounce sections goes to certain levels.
President Greg Pretty says the Snow Crab Negotiating Committee has “done everything it can to move the price of crab from the original decision.”
Licence holders will now be given the opportunity to accept or reject the latest proposal with extensive consultations over the next two days.
Pretty admits, it’s not the ideal situation for members and “thousands of people will be in need of federal and provincial assistance no matter how” the membership decides to more forward.
