A combination of dry weather and winds blowing in the right direction has resulted in a thick haze over Labrador City and Wabush but the MHA for the area says nothing is being done.
There are several monitoring stations in the area with the maximum allowable levels being exceeded but NDP Jordan Brown says monitoring and recording is all that happens.
The mine dust is so thick that visibility is obscured and some people who are more susceptible to poor air quality feel the effects.
MHA Brown says you can even taste it.
He says there’s one photo of a multi-storey apartment building in the centre of Labrador West and you can barely see the building.
Brown’s calling on the minister to do their job and use the appropriately technology to reduce the dust levels now instead of waiting for rain to do the fix.
