A new survey by the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society shows just over half of those asked believe the current amount of protected land in the province is ‘not enough’.
The survey shows that 55 per cent of Newfoundland and Labrador residents feel the amount of protected land is ‘not enough’ while four percent consider it ‘too much’.
Almost 7 in 10 respondents support Newfoundland and Labrador committing to a target of 30 per cent of land set aside for conservation purposes by 2030.
Twenty one percent of respondents feel the economy should come before protection of wildlife habitat, while 66 percent reject that position.
The poll was commissioned by CPAWS NL and conducted online by DDL Analytics involving some 400 participants between March 28th and April 2nd of this year. The margin of error is considered to be plus or minus 5 per cent 19 times out of 20.
