The capital city’s Downtown Pedestrian Mall is set to open later this month with plans in full swing to further improve the area.
The city is hoping to increase foot traffic on Water Street by adding a number of special events throughout the summer.
Community groups have been offered free space to host special events in the area, with groups such as the Johnson Geo Centre and Untellable Movement Theatre already booked.
Pop-up busker performances will be taking place every Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. during the Pedestrian Mall season and will include singing and dancing.
Previous events including the weekly REEL movie showings will be returning every Monday night in July.
Building on feedback from area businesses, the city will be implementing a directory map, improving signage, and increasing social media promotion.
St. John’s City Council will meet this afternoon at 3:00.
