Registered Nurses Union President Yvette Coffey has been recognized with a special award at the Canadian Federal of Nurses Unions Biennial Convention in PEI.
Coffey was presented with the Bread and Roses Award for leading her membership through what’s being called “two of the most tumultuous years in the history of Canada’s nursing profession.”
In presenting the award, CFNU President Linda Silas says Coffey led the union with “confidence and grace,” and called her a “fierce advocate of publicly funded and publicly delivered health care.”
Among the achievements attributed to Coffey under her leadership are a 25 per cent increase in seats at provincial schools of nursing, and the creation of a new government officer for the recruitment and retention of health care professionals.
