Changes made by NLC over the last year or so appear to have had an impact on the incidence of thefts involving violence at liquor stores.
The Liquor Corporation beefed up security last year following two years of steady theft-related losses.
At the time, NLC CEO Bruce Keating indicated that thefts had increased dramatically with losses on trend to rise to half a million dollars.
More troubling was the fact that staff were being threatened with weapons including firearms, needles and knives.
NLC barred access to adjoining grocery stores, and added security staff in response.
Keating says the changes are making a difference.
He says they’re providing a safer environment for customers and staff and losses are down.
