If you were thinking that the weather along the island’s northeast coast has been cooler and wetter than usual—you’d be right.
Environment Canada meteorologist David Neil says the average temperature for the Avalon Peninsula this June is well below normal.
The average temperature in St. John’s in June is 11 degrees, but so far this month the mean temperature has been under 8 degrees.
It’s also been wetter than normal.
The average rainfall amounts for the St. John’s region for the entire month of June is 97 mm, which is what had already fallen in the area by June 13.
Some parts of the island could see temperatures in the mid-20’s for the first time this year, but that warm respite won’t last—it’s back to rain, drizzle and fog by the weekend.
