A local gardening expert says the cool, wet spring being experienced in many parts of Newfoundland and Labrador is proving to be a challenge.
Horticulturalist with Memorial University’s Botanical Garden, Todd Boland, says with the already-shortened growing season, that might mean adjusting expectations when it comes to fruits and vegetables that prefer longer, warmer seasons.
He says warm-season crops like tomato, melons and zucchini might be more challenging to grow this year.
He says at the Botanical Garden they’ve had seeds sown in the ground for three weeks, and “still no sign.”
