The City of St. John’s is going to tighten up security at the stage on George Street with an 8-foot high locked fence.
In recent years, the stage has been subject to vandalism and used as overnight sleeping quarters.
The fencing, around the perimeter of the stage, would allow designated service providers to easily remove and replace each fence panel before and after scheduled events.
The ornamental fence is similar to what you see around the swimming pools and Bannerman Park and Bowring Park.
The front of the stage will be made up of easily-removable panels which are stored under the stage during each event. The panels lock in place to prevent unauthorized removal. Side panels will be permanently installed.
The matter comes up at St. John’s City Council this afternoon.
