The federal government is going to make an announcement in Labrador tomorrow on funding for mineral exploration.
Ginette Petitpas Taylor, the Minister Responsible for ACOA, and Labrador MP Yvonne Jones will be at the Happy Valley-Goose Bay campus of the College of the North Atlantic tomorrow morning for the event.
The focus is on critical mineral exploration, a relatively new game in the mining industry. We’ve already seen big deals signed such as the one by Tesla and Vale for ore from Voisey’s Bay.
Marcel Clifts, an official with Mining NL, says Newfoundland and Labrador has been recognized by the Fraser institute as the second best mining jurisdiction in the world.
He says that works to our advantage as the technology companies, especially the ones producing products that will be in the green technology space, that’s going to be valuable for them,” he says. “Lithium has been found, manganese, cobalt, nickel – they’re all in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
