A Paradise man has pleaded guilty to drunk driving that killed a Mount Pearl man on Pitts Memorial Drive.
The fatal crash occurred in the early-morning hours of April 3 last year.
42-year-old Brad Kerrivan was on his way to pick up his partner at the airport when his vehicle was hit head-on by a pickup.
Kerrivan died at the scene while the driver of the truck, 24-year-old Joshua Burt, was treated for serious injuries.
Three months later, Burt was charged with impaired and dangerous driving causing death.
Then in provincial court this morning, the Crown and defence said they’d reached a resolution that would see Burt plead guilty to the single charge of impaired driving causing death.
Asked by the judge to formally confirm that, Burt—appearing in court by telephone—stated, “guilty, your honour.”
Later, devastated family of the victim told VOCM they are relieved they won’t have to endure a painful, drawn-out trial.
Instead, pre-sentence reports detailing the impact of the loss on Kerrivan’s family and friends will be filed next month.
Burt remains free on conditions at least until the sentencing phase in December.
