Commercial vehicle drivers who travel long distances will soon be required to have electronic logging devices.
Starting December 1, provincial carriers that travel more than 160 km outside their home terminal or temporary worksite, or are required to track their hours by filling out a “record of duty status,” will be required to have electronic logging devices for vehicles and will be checked primarily at weigh scale stations for the devices.
School bus drivers are exempt.
The move, instituted by the federal government, is designed to ensure that all in the trucking industry are on the same page and following the same rules.
