The provincial government is reminding of the rules for safe pesticide use.
A pesticide is defined as any product that can be used to mitigate, attract, or destroy pests.
According to the province, all pesticide products registered in Canada have a Pest Control Product registration number, noting that it is important to read the label for each product as it contains important information about how it should be used.
They say that while Health Canada has the authority to register pesticides, other levels of government can impose their own restrictions.
For example, in 2012 the province banned the use of several active ingredients, preventing their use on lawns.
The ingredients are MECOPROP, 2,4-D, DICAMBA, MCPA and CARBARYL.
Businesses selling pesticides are required to have an appropriate license to do so. There are domestic licenses for products to be used in and around the home, and commercial licenses for products not available to the general public.
