The family of the late Rod Deon is welcoming everyone to be a part of the final send-off for the World War II veteran.
Roderick Joseph Deon died at the age of 102 on Wednesday at precisely, and fittingly, 11:11 p.m.
He wife Frances of 67 years passed away only two months earlier.
Daughter Jenn Deon says the loss was still very hard, despite her dad’s age.

Rod Deon was born in Nova Scotia and joined the Navy in 1942, serving aboard the destroyer HMCS Ottawa. His ship was on convoy duty in the North Atlantic and took part in the Normandy Invasion on D-Day in 1944.
In 2019, he travelled to France as a member of the Canadian delegation marking the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
The wake takes place tomorrow at Caul’s Funeral Home on Lemarchant Road in St. John’s. The funeral is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist.
Following the Mass, the funeral procession will travel to the Field of Honour at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Galway for an internment with military honours at which time Deon’s wife Frances will also be interred with him.
