A couple from Grand Falls-Windsor was pretty sure they had won the top prize on a Set for Life Scratch ‘n Win ticket, but their local store became a hive of excitement when they dropped in to confirm they weren’t dreaming.

In disbelief after scratching the ticket, the couple immediately decided to head to the nearest Atlantic lottery retailer to have it validated.

Tammy Cox says she and her partner, Perry, walked into the store shaking. She knew right away from the clerk’s reaction that she had won. She was screaming and jumping up and down and everyone in the store was hugging them.

The top prize for Atlantic Lottery’s Set for Life Scratch ‘N Win ticket is one of two options: $1,000 a week for 25 years, or a lump sum payment of $675,000. The Cox’s are taking the lump sum.

The couple has been buying Set for Life tickets for years.

He recently won $4 and $6 and used that money to buy two more Set for Life tickets, one of which turned out to be the big one.

The couple plans to pay off their mortgage, buy a new car and find a special way to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. They don’t plan to retire just yet.

The winner was purchased at Lotto Land in Grand Falls-Windsor, so they receive one per cent.
