The FFAW is looking forward to working with the new federal fisheries minister.
Quebec MP Diane Lebouthillier is now heading up the protfoilio after a cabinet shuffle yesterday, taking over from Joyce Murray.
FFAW president Greg Pretty says they are hoping for a renewed focus on robust science and economical sustainability.
Pretty thanked Murray for her directness in the portfolio, but says they are excited to have an MP with experience in similar waters as Newfoundland and Labrador.
He says her constituents fish many of the same species and encounter seals in much of the same way as Newfoundland and Labrador, so she should have a solid knowledge of the issues facing the industry.
