A contract has been awarded for concept design work for the Canning Bridge, a vital transportation link in Marystown, which is currently closed to vehicular traffic.

Harbourside Engineering Consultants will come up with a design for a new bridge for just over $225,500. They will outline all relevant concept design options including road layout configurations, hydrological capacities, environmental issues, and the different types of structures and materials in replacing the existing bridge. Their report is due by next spring.

The bridge was closed last fall for safety reasons, forcing people to take the long route around.
