Marine Atlantic’s new administration building in Port aux Basques is now ready to move to the next stage of construction following months of preparatory concrete and foundation work.
Earlier today, cranes began placing tilt-up panels, which are concrete walls, that will form the final building envelope.
The multi-year project is designed to address space and infrastructure challenges and consolidate administrative functions currently located at several buildings in the town.
The building will open next summer.
Marine Atlantic says the facility will be a leader in “energy efficient design” with modern amenities and new environmental technologies, including electric vehicle charging stations. The tilt panels are weather resistant, sturdier and require less maintenance.
Olympic Construction is the general contractor.
