A temporary fire ban is now in effect for much of the Metro region.
St. John’s Regional has issued a minimum 7-day long ban for the capital city, Mount Pearl, and Paradise. The ban prohibits any open fires, including backyard firepits, charcoal barbecues, and chimineas.
The Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s is also issuing a fire ban.
Propane firepits and barbecues are permitted.
The ban comes due to increased fire risk caused by dry weather conditions. Officials will continue to monitor the situation over the next week.
