The federal NDP are calling for Ottawa to stop charging HST or GST on home heating fuels.
Leader Jagmeet Singh, who visited the province earlier this week, says that many people in Newfoundland and Labrador rely on fuel to heat their homes, and by dropping the taxes, there can be some relief.
He says it is a platform that the NDP have ran on before and it makes a lot of sense.
Singh says it would provide immediate relief and provide support for those who are unable to find an alternative. In addition, he says more grants and programs are needed to help people make the switch away from home heating fuels, as the initial cost is expensive.
